Who’s eligible for the 2025 COVID-19 vaccine, or ‘Autumn Booster’?
As we head into autumn, it’s important to know that the protection offered by any previous COVID-19 vaccinations may start to wane over time. For people at higher risk of serious illness, a seasonal COVID-19 vaccine remains one of the most effective ways to reduce the chance of hospitalisation and severe disease.

NHS is offering free COVID-19 vaccinations again this autumn and we’re proud that The Grange Medical Practice is an approved national COVID-19 vaccination centre.
Vaccines continue to provide strong protection. UKHSA data from last autumn shows that people who received the vaccine were around 43% less likely to be admitted to hospital with COVID-19 from two weeks after vaccination, compared to those who were unvaccinated. Between November and January last winter, approximately 13,000 people in England were hospitalised with COVID-19.
Who is eligible for the autumn 2025 vaccine?
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has updated its advice for the autumn 2025 COVID-19 vaccination programme, which has been accepted by ministers. The focus of the programme is shifting towards targeted vaccination of those at highest risk of serious disease.
For autumn 2025, COVID-19 vaccination will be offered to:
- Adults aged 75 years and over
- Residents in care homes for older adults
- People who are immunosuppressed, aged 6 months and over
This is a more targeted programme than in previous years. For example, adults aged 65 to 74 and those with other clinical risk factors will not routinely be offered the vaccine this autumn, unless they fall into one of the groups above.
