Understanding and Supporting Mental Wellbeing in Midlife and Beyond

How to Recognise the Hidden Signs, Reduce the Stigma, and Take Action Towards Better Mental Health After 35

Why Midlife Mental Health Matters

We often say things like “I’m fine” or “I just need to get on with it.” But what if you took a moment to check in with yourself? Not just physically, but emotionally.

Between the ages of 35 and 60, so much changes. You might be navigating the stress of work, supporting growing children, caring for elderly parents, facing health scares, or experiencing grief. Sometimes, it can feel like everyone needs something from you. But who’s checking in on you?

It’s Time to Prioritise Your Mental Health

Many people come to us saying they feel tired, anxious, or stuck but they’ve never told anyone. Why? Because mental health is still too often brushed aside. But here at The Grange, we’re working to change that.

Sometimes the signs are subtle. It’s not always sadness. It could be:

  • Constant pressure from work or home life
  • Ongoing tiredness even after sleep
  • Loneliness or changes in relationships
  • Financial concerns
  • Losing interest in things that once brought you joy
  • Loss or grief, even if it’s years old

These aren’t just “off days.” All of these things affect your emotional health in deep, often unspoken ways. They’re asking your body to take care of the things

You Don’t Have To Manage It Alone

At The Grange Medical Practice, we offer more than just medical advice. We offer real, compassionate support through our dedicated Mental Health & Wellbeing Coordinator healthcare professionals. They’re always here to listen and help you take the next step whether that’s practical coping strategies, talking therapies, community-based support or guiding you towards free resources available.

A few small changes that can help as starting points

  • Sleeping well – Maintaining a minimum 7 hours sleep schedule everyday helps your body and mind reset.
  • Talk it out – Whether it’s with us or someone you trust, a pal, sibling or family member. Opening up is helpful to stop overthinking.
  • Know your options – Our team can guide you through services available locally and online.
